The Meaning of Rainbow Colors in Christianity and Different Cultures

I love color, the bolder the better! I especially love that God gave us a rainbow made up of red, orange, yellow green, blue, indigo and violet. These beautiful colors appear in the sky usually after a rain or storm. God presented his covenant as a sign to Noah that the earth would never be destroyed again by a flood, but by fire the next time (2Peter 3:10). The flood was used to cleanse the sin and evil of the world. Also, in (Revelations 4:3) a rainbow is used as a sign of the second coming of Jesus Christ. The signs of that time may be fast approaching.

Rainbow Meteorological Society states that rainbows are “an optical phenomenon that appear in the sky when sunlight and atmospheric conditions are just right, and the viewer’s position is also right. When I purchased my Apple 14 iphone, I chose to place a beautiful rainbow wallpaper on it because I loved the colors so much! Never really focusing on it as being a symbol of the LGBTQ community until months later a lady suggested I should change my screen to something else because I am a Christian.

It was not my perception to change it because I am a Christian, why not? God chose the colorful rainbow as his symbol to Noah, and no one group of people own color or the rainbow. I have already shared my love for color and belief that color is for everyone. I have ecstatically enjoyed my rainbow color wallpaper design and decided that I have not and will not change it until I choose to do so, case closed!

The seven colors in the rainbow from (Rainbow Symbolism in Christianity and its Meaning) provide the following purposes of the colors with added adjustments:

• Red- represents the blood of Jesus which washes us from our sin and gives eternal life
• Orange-represents fire blazing as “Holy Ghost fire” inflicting punishment to those that don’t acknowledge God or obey the gospel of Jesus Christ
• Yellow-God’s perfect light that shines, draws and is the source of all life
• Green-represents new life in Jesus, color of plants and gives bountiful blessings for each plant of its kind
• Blue- represents God’s domain, color of water, baptism to become a new creation in Jesus and gives life to the world
• Indigo-represents God’s protection wealth power and authority
• Violet-reminds us of God’s Kingship, color of royalty, spiritual transformation and growth

Rainbow colors have different meaning in various languages or countries. In Spain, the rainbow flag represents compassion and solidarity. The Spanish Supreme Court requires that unofficial flags not be allowed outside of public buildlings. In Hindu mythology, rainbows have multiple meanings, the first referred to as Indradhunesh or “Indras bow” is a demigod of weather and war. The second uses the rainbow to shoot lightning arrows, and finally, in Catholicism the rainbow is a token of God that represents his mercy as he sits and reigns mankind in the churches. It is important to note that rainbows are revered differently in different languages and cultures, therefore they must benefit each of us and should not be singled out as I have stated earlier.

It is important that we remember Satan was a beautiful angel over the music who became very prideful and tried to take control in heaven which led to him and his angels being cast out of it by Michael (Ezekiel 28:14-19). He is an imitator of everything that God does (2 Corinthians 11:14) suggesting that he disguises himself as an angel of light. “He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathered not with me, scattereth abroad.” I choose to follow Jesus Christ and his teachings.
