The Johnston Health Foundation recently made an amazing purchase for the Education Department of Johnston Health. This contribution was of three high-universal manikins, which consisted of a male adult, a child and a baby manikin to assist the health care professionals practice and learn new skills effectively. These priceless contributions were donated to the education department’s teaching labs which were used to begin our new year.
The manikins are unbelievably valuable to help our medical teams explore real life situations. One manikin that I forgot to mention could even give birth, therefore more realism was being provided to actually understand giving birth especially for those without children or childbirth experiences.
Members of the Foundation Board were given an opportunity to experience life=changing situations in a meeting using assimilation cards and manikins for specific health issues or activities that may happen in our hospitals with patients. The manakins could blink, cry and even be prompted to mimic life altering conditions such as stroke, sepsis, and heart attack We became mock health care professionals and got to utilize assimilation cards that instructed us to maintain and follow procedures as directed for the patient’s health plan. Collectively, medical team member, teaching educators and other medical staff encouraged and directed us of the plans to follow for success. This was so exciting and we never lost a manikin!

I am glad to be a member of the Johnston Health Foundation Board and support the valuable contributions they continue to make for the people of Johnston County Communities and beyond. This was a memorable experience as we each acquired first hand knowledge and strategies of urgency of movement by the staff as they seek to be the best they can be in life-changing situations.
I seek to encourage individuals to volunteer their services, talents and skills to support and meet the needs of every patient at UNC Johnston Health. May we accomplish goals and realize that we are better together! -DrWanda Robinson Lee- Life Coach
