Creating Your Life Table: Who to Invite for Growth

Presently, one of the books I am reading is “Take Your Seat at the Table” by Anthony Oneal. This is an inspiring book which considers the table as a very special piece of furniture in our homes. Tables are not meant for individuals to be isolated or to sit alone but is considered for people of like minds and interests to share and enjoy each other’s company. The table represents our Life and should be valued when we consider identifying just who to invite to our table. What kind of table do you have? Is your table welcoming to others? How do you choose? Who are those individuals that will help you grow physically, mentally, socially, financially, and spiritually? I began to think about individuals who should sit at my table and those that would help me reach my dreams and aspirations. I would utilize personal resources to help with choosing people to join my table.

My family, especially my daughter, has been given a seat at the table which provides mental support and clarity. She has become my best friend, a professional counselor and seeks to share knowledge for my Life Coach Initiative. In addition, spiritually, I would welcome my church family, Seasoned Truth Miners to sit at the table to study the Word of God and through prayer explore truths learned that “iron sharpens iron” (Proverbs 27:17) and that we need each other. The next place at the table would be for my gym family and associates to help develop my physical capability. I try extensively to work out two days a week, beginning at 6:45 am working on the machines, then attend two aerobic classes, until 9:00am. I love inviting these and other individuals to a seat, those that encourage as we come together with the same focus to maintain and keep our bodies fit and healthy.  Those individuals not in my personal classes may provide emotional support for me to continue the journey. I enjoy meeting people wherever I am and have been considered a social butterfly, since my husband likes to stay close to home, I welcome my Sister-in-law to the table to socially indulge in our Friday night dinners and other “girls’ night out events”. However, the final seat to be provided at the table is for my financial advisor.  This place is highly valued at the table because money management, tax-efficiency strategies, and the need to stay focused on financial goals is vital because God wants us to be balanced in all areas of our life.

One final question, are you at the head of your table? When individuals are in control of a setting, they usually have the authority to make decisions, are you that person? Seek to get your table established and choose individuals to do life together. If you have questions, seek to contact me DrWanda at wandaphd.com Thank you for your support.
