Problems with Gardening
Hello Friends, I have asked you to follow my journey with companion gardening and using Heirloom seeds. Well, I need your help! My garden looks like it is standing still! The squash looks like they have only grown an inch in size, and it has been weeks since I should be harvesting the beginning crop. The other thing I noticed is that the leaves have begun to turn yellow, not the lush green color they were before. Well, my pickling cucumbers has been the only harvest besides strawberries that I have received. Yesterday, I noticed the yellowing of the leaves beginning with my cucumber plants although, I picked 3 nice ones this week and have been getting about 4 per week, I have been pleased with this progress. However, the other thing I noticed yesterday was the tiny cucumbers on the vine also turning yellow which I believe contributed to all the rain we have been having.
Surprise Visitor in My Garden
Guess what I found out, as I decided to spray my plants with Neem Oil today, an ugly brown Aphid appeared on one of the top leaves just looking at me. Perfect timing because I was ready for him! I immediately snatched that critter off the leaf, threw him onto the ground and squashed him with my foot. Dead and done was he! I continued spraying the top underneath each leaf and believe this is the beginning of my garden being on the mends from this traumatic journey.
Pest Control or Organic Fertilizer
Has your garden faced issues with pests, or growth problems, or are you choosing special fertilizers? Have you refrained from chemicals, if so, what are they, what have you done, or what do you recommend? I have purchased Neem and Peppermint Oil but haven’t used it yet because I am still using Neem that is already opened. Before all the rain that we have been having, I recently tried a recipe for fertilizer on TikTok, you mix brown sugar with baking soda and water together which is supposed to make your crops lush and bountiful. I’m not sure how this would have worked because of the rain we have had these last couple weeks. Matter of a fact, we just had rain and thunderstorms minutes ago for about 45 minutes.
Success is Around the Corner
I am excited about this journey that I am on and want to move forward with success. Hope to hear from garden enthusiats that would like to share important nuggets with me through their journey and encouragement in gardening.
