How many of you like Sunbeam bread? Many of us do and recognize the traditional picture of the little girl on the packaging with a cheerful image. Since the 1940’s she has provided a sense of comfort reflecting meaningful scriptual messages throughout the year.
During November and the early parts of December, Sunbeam provides a holiday image of the girl in a praying posture, which supports the Christmas season. The story in Matthew 4:4, reflects the time that Jesus had been fasting and Satan tempted him. Jesus reminded Satan that, “Man shall not live by bread alone,” but spiritual nourishment is as valuable to the body as the physical. Just to note, “Not by bread alone” appears on Sunbeam packaging in every season and for generations to come.
To celebrate the season and educate each of us on the Sunbeam story, Ms. Susan, a member of our Life Coaching Class, purchased a loaf of bread for each of us and we reflected on the deeper meaning of the Sunbeam story and the joy it brings during Christmas. We even shared stories of our childhood memories of Little Ms. Sunbeam.
Find the joy of sharing childhood memories with others. It is amazing how understanding their history as with Little Ms. Sunbeam opened deeper relationships, for building community throughout life.
