Have you noticed that smaller stores are encouraging you to have the correct cash or use your debit card to make purchases? I have noticed that to be the case in less than five situations and have chosen to use my debit card instead. Another time when I was having shoes repaired, the merchant gave me the total repair price and asked that I pay half of it at drop off of the shoes and paid the balance upon pick up. This was inconvenient for me, but what do you do when you want and need the service that only this establishment provides? I value and appreciate his business.
Do you believe that our society is moving towards digital payments totally? Younger consumers are already using less physical money when they use mobile payments, cards, and online transfers electronically. Yes, this provides convenience using fewer physical monies causing decreases in thefts. It also limits customers like me that provide monies to my grandchildren and others in special cards. I enjoy the special money towers and creative gifts individuals offer for their loved ones for special birthdays. I just cannot even think of all the wonderful activities that loved ones use to show their dearest affection using real money for special occasions.
Wow, I hope physical money does not completely go away any time soon! I enjoy having it as a valuable part of my life. Whatever system happens, may it bring security and enjoyment for each of us in whatever means we as a culture choose to use, that it benefits everyone for the better.
