The marathon of life has been set for each of us. How are you running the race? Do you follow the guidelines set to accomplish your goal or do you choose to go your own way just because you can? Suppose you determine to set your own course to avoid the lessons set for each of the participants to finish the race appropriately as timed. As with the officials of the race, God knows the plans he has set for us (Jeremiah 29:11) and wants us to use the strategies learned for lifelong accomplishments.
The Marathon, as with the Word of God has created a clear and concise plan to follow with the necessary challenges and celebrations set to help us master and become more proficient for the journey. Just suppose you as a participant in the race decided to manipulate the race for your own pleasure. Instead of following the procedure set, you decided to take shortcuts, go through the town and communities to avoid the hills, valleys, and crowds on the circuit to get to the finish line much quicker. Do you believe that you or any person choosing to do their own thing or follow their own Way, would win a prize from the race? Of course not!
The individuals that choose to go their own way not only jeopardize their integrity, but they miss out on a wonderful feeling of accomplishment, giving the body a good workout. First, allowing the endorphins to be released from their bodies along with the encouragement from the cheering crowds that release dopamine which brings a sense of pleasure. I like to think, each time we learn something new, more wrinkles take a place in our brains to suggest we are growing in knowledge or skill. Just think about going through this process, one must mentally and physically maneuver through the circuit to win, strategizing to cross the finish line before the other competitors. What a process? Ecclesiastes (9:11) reminds us that the race is not given to the swift, but to the one that endures the course and finishes to the end.
Jesus wants us to run this race of life with excellence! Let us trust and believe in his promises that we may win the prize of life and receive those inspiring words from him in Matthew 25:23, “Well done my good and faithful servant”. We don’t have to create a way because Jesus is the Way! Please accept him today and reach this finish line called “Heaven.”
