Dr. Jennifer Lowry was the presenter for Neuse River Writers September meeting this morning. She is the author of numerous books and presently a publisher of many. Dr. Jennifer had always wanted to gain the rights for her publication journey. She decided to become a student by allowing a publisher to take her on the journey for her first book. This opportunity allowed her to learn the ends and outs of the process from start to finish; therefore, she accomplished her goal and now publishes for others.
The lesson learned from gaining control of her first book, was painful and yet she had to change the name of the main character, the title of her book and the cover but gleaned the know how and became a master of self-publishing.
Dr. Jennifer has shared amazing nuggets for each of us at whatever level we are now in the process. She has encouraged us to always think as a publisher, therefore we will make wiser choices in our writing. The workshop today was active and engaging as she kept us enthusiastic and moving around the room as well as building community. We got to network with others that are in similar processes as us on this journey.
She basically encouraged everyone to write something each day which will help maintain our focus and stop the writer’s block. Dr. Lowry doesn’t believe writer’s block doesn’t exists amongst individuals that have such a compassion for writing and choose to write something always. If you are considering writing a book whether you self-published or choose to use a publisher, do your research and check out Dr. Jennifer Lowry.
